The Bedford Citizens’ Fire Academy Alumni Association
was formed in May 1999 by members of the first two classes of the
Bedford Citizens’ Fire Academy for the purpose of bringing together the
graduates of the Bedford Citizens’ Fire Academy to serve as volunteers
in support of the Bedford Fire Department. The Alumni Association’s
additional stated purposes are to provide aid in increasing public
awareness of fire safety measures and to provide continuing and expanded
education in methods of saving lives and property.
In March 2000, the Alumni Association purchased a RV that was converted
to a Rehab unit to be used at the scene of major incidents in which the
Bedford Fire Department is participating. The Rehab unit provides water,
Gatorade, snacks, cold towels, coffee and bathroom facilities to
firefighters at the incident scene as they rotate out of fighting the
fire, clean up at a major accident or any other major incident. The
Rehab unit was retired from service in April 2005.
The Association has several fundraising activities throughout the year
to raise funds to support the firefighters and fire department. The
Association provides support to the Bedford Fire Department and
Firefighters throughout the year for such events as Smoke Detector
checks, October Fire Safety Month programs at Bedford elementary schools
and the Fire Department Annual Open House as well as July 4th
activities. The Association began providing scholarships to Bedford
firefighters children as well as local high school seniors in 2007.
The Alumni Association meets on a monthly basis at the Bedford Fire
Department Station 1 training room on the third Monday of each month. If
you would like to become involved with this organization, you must first
complete the Bedford Citizens’ Fire Academy class. To participate in the
class, please contact Fire Marshal Joey Lankford at 817-952-2500.
Our association officers for 2011-2012 are:
President - Kim Brown
Vice President - Michael Paul
Secretary - Nancy Risha
Treasurer - Darren Wallerstedt
Historian - Ben Saladino
